The problem is that most of the time we are so wrapped up in our own little world that we don’t hear him. All we just can’t think it’s us thinking. Did you ever hear of the phrase “a guilty conscience”? That is God speaking to us telling us we did wrong. Whether we act on it and correct our behavior or ignore it is up to us. To me, it’s like a two-way radio station that I call the WWJD Radio station. Most radio stations are on the air 24/7.

The irony of the whole thing is that God speaks to all of us whether Christian or not. Those that are not Christian the problem is that they’ve turned up the volume of life so they can’t hear anything but their own voice and that of the world. Also, the problem is we always try and justify it as something else. God speaks to us in a lot of different ways. We’ll take a closer look at them in a little bit.

The Lord constantly speaks to us and gives us His direction and answers our prayers. It’s never the Lord who is not speaking, but it’s us who are not listening. Jesus made some radical statements about hearing His voice in John 10:3-5. He was speaking about Himself as the Shepherd of the sheep and the only way to enter the sheepfold.

Radio and television stations transmit twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; but we only hear them when we turn the receiver on and tune it in. I call it The WWJD Radio Station. They are always there, but failure to hear the signal doesn’t mean the station isn’t transmitting. Likewise, God is constantly transmitting His voice is to His sheep, but few have their receivers turned on and tuned in. Most Christians are busy pleading with God in prayer to transmit when the problem is with their receivers. Sometimes their receivers are turned on and tuned in but we are so busy in our lives that we cannot hear him. Between always being on social media, watching TV, a busy work schedule, or any one of 100 other things that occupy our time.

Psalm 46:10 says;

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

This is a polite way I feel of saying “shut up”. Sometimes we are so busy asking God for stuff that we do not give Him time to answer us.

Do you have friends that are always asking you for favors, and you as a friend, help them but then that one time you need to favor from them they come up with all the reasons why they can’t? How does that make you feel? Well, God is the same way. We always ask him for things but what are we willing to do for Him?

One of the hardest things I ever had to do when I gave my life to Christ rewording to distinguish my wants from my needs. When we ask God for things we need to remember Philippians 4:19 that states; And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. God never said that he would supply our wants. Unfortunately, most of the prayers that we pray are asking just for what are wants. I am guilty of this as well.

The other thing that we need to do is fix our receivers, we need to believe that God is already speaking and start listening. However, that takes time, effort, and focus. The average Christian’s lifestyle is so busy, it isn’t conducive to hearing God’s voice. It’s in stillness, not busyness, that we tune our spiritual ears to hear the voice of God.
