The Scriptural account says, \u201cBlind Bartimaeus,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the son of Timaeus,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0sat by the highway side begging.\u201d\u202f If he were begging out of financial need, in other words, poor and destitute, there would have been no mention of his lineage; his father\u2019s name would have not been given.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559739&quot;:120}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Therefore, Bartimaeus was on the highway begging for his healing.\u202f People in the lands and times of the Bible did this to obtain mercy from God.\u202f They became\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">as low as a beggar<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">, in other words, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">he humbled himself despite who he was<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">. He was in a public place, hoping that a holy man might pass by and they could receive healing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559739&quot;:120}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, he cried out saying, \u201cJesus thou son of David, have mercy on me.\u201d\u202f And then those around him told him to shut up.\u202f But instead, he kept crying out for Jesus to have mercy on him.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559739&quot;:120}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Scriptural account next includes another detail that is often overlooked but has great significance.\u202f The Bible says, \u201cAnd he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.\u201d No one told him to cast away his garment. The garment he cast away was his robe.\u202f Those who begged for healing as opposed to financial need often wore their robes.\u202f Seeing someone begging in a robe instead of rags would be a very obvious indication the person was begging for healing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559739&quot;:120}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">A person\u2019s robe indicated his status, his authority, his position in the community, his standing, as well as his dignity<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u202f When Jesus called for Bartimaeus, he cast away his robe and went to Jesus, empty (of status).\u202f He went before Christ empty of all pride, dignity, standing, and status; he stood before him with great humility, to obtain mercy. Isn\u2019t it inspiring to see Bartimaeus choosing to lay aside all his pride?\u202f No one told him he should do that.\u202f It was his choice.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559739&quot;:120}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We can all learn from Bartimaeus. When we go before the Lord in church or anywhere else we need to humble ourselves and remove everything that is about us.
